Recently, the National Academy of Sciences released a study about TCE (trichloroethylene), a chemical that may be found in drinking water. TCE has been detected at 60% of the Superfund sites across the US, and stricter standards in drinking water are being discussed. MWRA has never found TCE in its water supply. MWRA tests for TCE at several locations in the water system. MWRA's most recent test for TCE took place in July 2006. MWRA samples were tested with highly-sensitive equipment. MWRA tests the water supply each year for over 120 contaminants to ensure the water supplied is of the highest quality. For more information, please read MWRA's Water Quality Report. The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority provides water and sewer services to 2.5 million people in 61 metropolitan Boston communities. Some files on this site require Adobe Acrobat Reader®.
