MWRA Video Contest for 2016-2017

Grade 9-12 students in the MWRA service area are invited to participate in our Video Contest for 2016-2017.

2016-2017 Video Contest Topic

How the Weather Affects the MWRA and its Workers

Too wet? Too dry? No matter what the weather,the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year providing clean drinking water from the Quabbin and Wachusett Reservoirs and treatment at Deer Island to 2.5 million people.

Eligibility

The poster contest is open to all grade 9-12 students in the MWRA service area. Only schools in the service area are eligible to enter. Students may work alone or in teams of no more than four people. All entrants must submit a signed release form with their videos. Release forms are included in the contest entry packet (PDF).

Legal Requirements

Release Form: If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must give MWRA permission to use your video. Each member of your group must submit a signed release form (PDF) along with the video. Release forms are included in the contest entry packet (PDF).

Copyrighted Material: You may only include clips from copyrighted commercials, movies, television shows, music, or on-line videos if you obtain copyright permission. You must verify that your video contains no copyrighted material in your signed release form. Release forms are included in the contest entry packet (PDF).

Free Music for Videos: YouTube offers a library of free, downloadable music and sound effects that students can use in their videos. A YouTube account is required.

Contest Topic

Produce a video (3 minutes or less) to show how weather affects he MWRA and its workers.

Deadline

Entries must be postmarked by Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Early entries are encouraged.

Required Forms and Labels

Every group of student entries must have a Contest Registration Form and each entry must have a Student Label attached securely to the back of the entry. Forms and labels are included in the contest entry packet (PDF).

Each individual entry must include a signed release form (PDF).

Students may enter on their own if they live in or attend a school in the MWRA service area. You must include the student label on the back of your entry. Labels are included in the contest entry packet (PDF).

Prizes

First prize in each category is a $100.00 gift card, 2nd prize is a $50.00 card, and 3rd prize is a $25.00 card. In the video contest there is a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and (3) honorable mention winners. All winners, including honorable mention winners, are invited with their families to an Awards Ceremony at Deer Island on Friday, May 26, 2017.

How to Submit Contest Entries

Submit 1 copy of the video in DVD format. A signed release form for every student must be included with the videos. Be sure to tape a completed student label included in the contest entry packet (PDF) onto each DVD case. Release forms are included in the contest entry packet(PDF).

What Makes a Good Video
